I woke up and went to a gym near my hostel called X Fitness. I did a 4 mile run on the treadmill plus a short ab workout. For some reason I love going to local gyms when I travel. You are almost guaranteed to be the only tourist there, and it’s just cool to see another side of local life.
I came back to have my hostel’s breakfast, but it turned out to be meat soup so I just had my own muesli and tahini (that I bought in Thailand) instead.
I left to go to Craft Cafe to work for a bit. Craft is a huge cafe with a large coffee menu, plus some food. I just got an Americano. It’s a good place to work because it has decent (by Myanmar standards) wifi and lots of outlets.
I got hungry and went to Nourish for lunch. I got their big quinoa salad, which was delicious and healthy. I opened my laptop again, watched some reality TV, and stayed until closing (around 4 pm).
I walked around Yangon for a bit and ended up at Junction City, a huge mall downtown. It’s the first big mall I’ve seen in Yangon— it has tons of luxury stores and a large food court upstairs. I even saw an Ippudo!
I got dinner at Indian and Nepali Food, my second visit there. The waitress was SUPER accommodating and friendly.
She first asked if I was vegetarian or vegan, and I was so happy to even hear the word vegan come out of her mouth; most people in Myanmar don’t know what vegan means. I asked if she could make the mushroom masala vegan, and she said of course. I also asked for a masala chai tea.
She brought the tea out, but it looked milky so I didn’t drink it. I did, however, clean the bowl of mushroom masala clean. It was delicious AND spicy! Wahoo!
When I asked for the bill, she asked if I didn’t want the tea. When I told her I didn’t drink it because I don’t drink milk, she said she had put soy milk in it for me because she knows I’m vegan. I was so happy! Thank you to the lovely lady at the restaurant for making my dining experience so great, especially after such a horrific dinner the night before. <3
After finishing the chai tea (which was also delicious), I went back to Chinatown and walked around for a bit. It was CRAZZYYY packed with people for the New Year. I could only handle about 10 minutes of it before I got watermelon from the same lady as yesterday and walked back to the hostel.
I ate the fruit and then went to bed. Cause I’m a grandma sometimes!
