Finding a Focus

It has taken me a while, but I feel like I’ve finally found my passion in life. Up until now, I’ve never been able to pinpoint exactly what it is that inspires me and makes me happy. I definitely know what I enjoy doing– writing, researching, helping others, trying new things, and travelling. But I wasn’t quite sure if those were my passions. Recently, I’ve realized that health and fitness is really what drives me forward. It is what I consider to be the most important thing and is something I can see remaining constant for the rest of my life.

Whether it’s been gymnastics, swimming, dancing, cheerleading, or running, I’ve always been active. However, it wasn’t until recently that I actively thought about health and changed my lifestyle to improve my well-being. All the sports I had done previously were purely for my own enjoyment, to make friends and to keep myself occupied. I wasn’t really thinking about the health benefits. I really began to take my fitness seriously when I started running (on the treadmill) two years ago. I loved how it made me feel and I wanted to keep getting better and improve. Now I feel like health and fitness are a part of me. It’s more than a habit– it’s a necessity, a constant. There’s still so much I need to learn, but I am so excited.

If I could find a way to combine all my interests with my passion into a career, that would be great. Perhaps I could work for a health/fitness-focused company? Or travel around, run races and write about it? Help others become fit? As I approach the last semester of my college career, I am terrified for what’s to come. What if I don’t find a job? What if I find one and I hate it? I’m hoping that at least by identifying my passion, I can focus my choices and decisions a bit more and discover what is best for me.
